Christine
Whitesell was presented an Above & Beyond
Award by Edward Thompson, PhD, CRNA.

Christine Whitesell was
recognized for going Above & Beyond the call
of duty when she helped a patient in the PACU. The
RNs on duty were very appreciative of the extra
support and time she gave. "The patient truly
benefited from" the work Christine did that day.

Sam Thibodeaux was awarded the honor or
presenting his poster at the AANA Annual Meeting
in Seattle
|
Sam Thibodeaux worked with Dr. Lance Lichtor for 2
years on the effects that light and caffeine have
on sleepiness following sedation. Their poster and
abstract were selected for presentation at the
71st AANA Anual Meeting. In addition, the AANA
awarded Sam with $1,000.

the Above & Beyond Award by Dr. Thompson on
October 28th. Aaron was nominated by a patient."The first time I met Aaron Gopp was
in pre-op... I was extremely ill and frightened.
He assured me he would be with me and keep me as
comfortable as possible... He was very kind,
compassionate and reassuring, so much so that my
husband and I requested him for 3 more surgeries I
had to have. We are extremely grateful for Aaron's
genuine compassion and

O’Brien’s poster presentation

2001 AANA Student Writing Contest for her paper
“Melatonin-A Hormone with Potential for Novel
Applications in Anesthesia”. |

Mary O’Brien was one of only
three students in the country selected to make a
podium presentation on her topic “Cardiopulmonary
Arrests in Non-Critical Areas of the Hospital: A
Two-Year Analysis of Outcome” at the 2001 AANA
Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The same topic
was also selected for a poster presentation. Ms.
O’Brien’s poster abstract was published in a 2001
issue of the AANA Journal. |

Gambrill

Vikki Gambrill, Chief SRNA
of the Class of 2001, was recognized with an
honorable mention for the AANA Student Writing
Contest at the 6th World Congress for Nurse
Anesthetists on August 9, 2000. Her paper
entitled “Diagnosis and Treatment of Tension
Pneumothorax Under Anesthesia” detailed Vikki’s
experience with diagnosing a tension
pneumothorax while in rotation at the University
of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Vikki’s paper was
published in the February 2002 issue of the AANA
Journal. |
