Class of 2010

Stephanie Klein received a You Made a Difference award in April 2009 for her excellent care of a patient during surgery. 

“Words cannot express the gratitude I have for you and the job you did on the day of my surgery. The care and compassion you provided for me during my surgery made the difference. You made me feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. I was awake during the whole five-hour surgery, and you let me know that you were there for me the whole time. Thank you from my entire family for the care you provided. I really felt like I had my own personal angel in the operating room and that angel was you.”

Emily Fischer wrote a paper titled Airway Management in Patients with Cervical Spine Instability, which will published in an upcoming issue of the AANA Journal.

Mathews and Haffarnan


Maya Mathews and Mary (Kate) Haffarnan presented a poster at the 2007 AANA Annual Meeting on their work with Mohamed Ghoneim, MD, and Robert Block, PhD, of the University of Iowa Anesthesia Dept. Awareness During Anesthesia: Risk Factors, Causes and Sequelae: A Review of Reported Cases in the Literature was also published in the Anesthesia & Analgesia journal in February 2009.

Jennifer Tretsven presented her poster Pulling the Plug on Stent Thrombosis: Perioperative Management of Cardiac Stents and Antiplatelet Therapy at the 2007 Annual Meeting in Denver.

Stephanie Lawrence had her poster selected for presentation at the 72nd Annual AANA Meeting. Her poster is titled Rural Nurse Anesthetists Views of Rural Anesthesia: The Iowa CRNA Survey.

Lisa Schlenker received an Above & Beyond recognition by doctors in the OR. Lisa was praised for her commitment to patient care and her willingness to stay after hours to help out with a complex case.

Jennifer McClimon was recognized for going Above & Beyond the call of duty. A friend of a patient praised her professionalism, knowledge, and manner.

"Jennifer warmly greeted us, as part of the anesthesiology team. She demonstrated excellent communication skills, exemplary beside manner, and a positive, friendly attitude. She conducted herself as a "seasoned" professional and was successful in addressing the anxiety and concerns of myself and the patient."
