Cormac O'Sullivan, PhD, CRNA, ARNP
Director, Anesthesia Nursing
Dr. O’Sullivan received his BSN from the University of Iowa in 1987. After working in a variety of ICU and Level I emergency trauma centers throughout the United States, he attended the Ravenswood Hospital/DePaul University program in Nurse Anesthesia and was named the distinguished graduate in the class of 1996. He joined the anesthesia department at the University of Iowa in 1996 and served as associate program director for the Anesthesia Nursing Program since 1998. Dr. O’Sullivan received his PhD in Health Services Policy with a focus on Health Economics from the University of Iowa College of Public Health in 2008. He was appointed director of the Anesthesia Nursing Program in June 2009.
Heather Bair, DNP, CRNA, ARNP
Associate Director, Anesthesia Nursing
Dr. Bair has worked at the UIHC throughout her career. She graduated from the BSN program in 1997 and from the Anesthesia Nursing program in 2005. She obtained her DNP in 2011 with a capstone project on the implentation of anesthesia safety guidelines utlizing aviation principles in checklist design. Her areas of interest in research application include the development and evaluation of tools for clinical application of research, and outcomes monitoring and quality assurance in outpatient anesthesia. She has a passion for teaching and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Internationa Honor Society of Nursing, lowa Association of Nurse Anesthetists (IANA), and American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Michael Anderson, DNP, CRNA, ARNP
Assistant Professor (Clinical)
Dr. Anderson received his MSN from the Cleveland Clinic/Case Western Reserve University Anesthesia Nursing Program in 2008. He joined the University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia shortly thereafter and has worked as a staff CRNA since. Dr. Anderson received his DNP in 2014 from the University of Iowa and his capstone project focused on Infection Control in the Operating Room. His research and clinical interests include neuroanesthesia, infection control, the evolution of teaching and continuing education and evidence- based practice and quality assurance research. Dr. Anderson is also very involved with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA), the Iowa Association of Nurse Anesthetists (IANA) and is the Emerging Leader Fellow for the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). Dr. Anderson was appointed Clinical Coordinator for the Anesthesia Nursing Program in August, 2015.
